Programs

The mission of Chinatown Beacon Center is to strengthen our community one person at a time by unleashing the power of youth and improving the lives of families. CBC is a community collaborative that turns a school into a community center after school day by utilizing the principles and practices of youth development. Chinatown Beacon Center envisions a dynamic community that has healthy young people and families, supports individuals to reach their full potential, and is confident, accepting, and evolving.

Summer Adventure Camp and Beacon Summer Challenge
The Chinatown Beacon Center summer programs provide safe, supportive, opportunity-rich spaces for young people during the summer. Summer Adventure Camp and Beacon Summer Challenge expose young people to experiences that they might not otherwise have. For example, participants go on field trips such as camping, sailing, and swimming, create digital videos, create art projects, compete in challenges, and have lots more fun.

After School Community Enrichment & After School Learning (ASL)
"The After School Learning and Safe Neighborhoods Program was initiated by the Legislature in 1998 (SB 1756) which provides funds to establish local after school education and enrichment programs. The program was then modified in 2002, as a result of the Proposition 49 initiative and changed its name to After School Education adn Safety Program (ASESP)."

Nite Lites
The purpose of Nite Lites is to instill leadership skills into young people through servicing the community. If you have a desire to help the community, this program is for you. Participants learn leadership skills by planning and implementing activities and events that benefit the community. The group is made-up of mainly high school students with some middle-school youth; there is neither an age nor grade requirement.
